Culture lovers can experience full satisfaction. The two biggest cities in South Tyrol, Bolzano and Merano, offer many sights. We recommend visiting the Waltherplatz square with its’ fruit market in the Old Town of the capital Bolzano. There are also many different museums in Bolzano, such as the nature museum, city museum and the South Tyrolean archaeology museum with “Ötzi”, the world-famous mummy discovered below a glacier. The beauty of Merano with its mild climate, the arcades and the Kurhaus, was already appreciated by the Austrian empress Sissi during her numerous visits. The botanical garden of the Trauttmansdorff Palace, the former holiday caste of Empress Elisabeth, and the South Tyrolean Museum for Tourism attract thousands of visitors every year from April until October.
Other ideas for excursions are Runkelstein Castle in Bolzano, the Messner Mountain Museum at Sigmundskron Castle, the Fruit Tree Museum in Lana and the South Tyrolian animal museum in Burgstall. For our little guests, we especially recommend seeing the railway world in Rabland with over 20.000 model trains. Witnesses from previous centuries such as castles surround our village and are easily reached after short hikes.
Music lovers can find Classical as well as Jazz Festivals in Bolzano and Merano with orchestras and composers from all around the world. The united stages of Bolzano and top-class guest productions from all over the German-speaking world offer theatre of the finest quality from September until June.
For the young and young at heart, there are lots of wine parties and village fairs but also classic discotheques where you can dance the night away.
